What is thread lifting?
Thread lifting is a minimally-invasive procedure that is used to treat the signs of ageing and sagging skin in areas of the face.
It is sometimes called the ‘non-surgical facelift’. Unlike more invasive, surgical face lifting procedures, it is performed using a local anaesthetic and has a much quicker recovery time.
Most procedures can be completed in less than an hour, and you will be able to leave the clinic and carry on with your day shortly after. Thread lifting is considered a popular ‘lunch-hour facelift’ treatment for this reason.
What areas can be treated with thread lifting?
Thread lifting is an effective treatment for ageing in the skin.
Ageing skin is characterised by loss of volume and tone, and the signs of increasing fine lines and wrinkles. This is due to the loss of collagen and elastin in the skin, which is an inevitable factor in the natural ageing process.
Together with the equally natural loss of fat on the face, the upper cheeks may start to appear hollow and the skin grows loose around the jaw line and chin. This leads to the appearance of jowls and ‘marionette lines’, and can leave the face with a tired, aged and even sad look.
Thread lifting can effectively slow down or reverse the signs of ageing in the skin by:
- lifting sagging jowls and marionette lines
- lifting brows
- enhancing cheek volume and definition
- redefining the jaw line and
- tightening the neck.
How does thread lifting work?
The procedure involves inserting very fine sutures, using a fine needle, just under the skin of the area being treated.
The sutures have a dual effect. They grip onto and lift the soft tissues in the skin, helping to reduce sagging and the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The sutures also stimulate the body to natural produce collagen in the skin in that area, leading over time to the fuller appearance that gives more volume to the skin.
The sutures are biodegradable, and will be fully absorbed by the body naturally over a period of about 12 to 18 months.
The results can be seen immediately, but will continue to improve for up to 18 months.
Are there any side effects?
Thread lifting is a safe and relatively simple treatment that has minimal discomfort and needs only a local anaesthetic for inserting the threads under the skin.
There are no incisions with the procedure, or cutting of the skin, so it avoids the risks associated with surgical face-lifts.
In the days following your thread lift procedure, you may experience some slight bruising, tenderness or swelling in the treated area. We will give you advice relevant to your lifestyle to make sure that your downtime and recovery is as short and comfortable as possible.
