SMARTXIDE

FRACTIONAL LASER RESURFACING

The big buzz in the dermatology and cosmetic surgery world
The gold standard in reversing the signs of aging skin has been resurfacing with the CO2 laser. Resurfacing is achieved by peeling away a layer of skin while causing tissue contraction. Although this modality achieves dramatic results, candidates often undergo general anaesthesia and prolonged healing and recovery times (as long as four weeks).

SmartXide by Deka Lasers in Italy have now provided us with a CO2 fractional system with a super-fast scanner that can allow us to do a “Dot Resurfacing” of the whole face and neck in 20 minutes. The dot pattern, both in terms of power, spacing and duration can be tailored to your skin-type and degree of damage.

It is ideal for reducing and reversing the changes from sun-damage, by destroying and “lifting” out abnormal pigment, as well as causing skin tightening from the thermal “insult” to dermal collagen, and stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin, to give a younger, fresher look to the skin.

The SMARTXIDE Deka CO2 Laser is an FDA-approved resurfacing laser that can dramatically improve your skin’s appearance without the downtime and discomfort usually required with traditional resurfacing.

  • No general anaesthesia
  • Local Anaesthetic for only a few conditions needed
  • Ultra-fast scanner; means treatments only take minutes
  • FDA approved
  • Treat sun damage
  • Stubborn pigmentation
  • Acne scars
  • Moles and freckles
  • Rough texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines
  • Skin laxity on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands
  • Surgical scars

What does it treat?
It is a safe and effective way to treat sun damage, stubborn pigmentation, acne scars, rough texture, enlarged pores, fine lines and skin laxity on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands and surgical scars, with essentially no downtime.

How many treatments will it takes to see the best results?
Depending on the degree of damage to your skin and desired results, most patients require 3 – 5 treatments, spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.

How much improvement can I expect?
Patients can expect to see improvement in the colour, texture and quality of the skin within a week or two after the treatment; however, more significant improvement will be seen after the series of treatments is complete. Skin laxity can be improved by combining SMARTXide with THERMAGE (See other pages on site)

What does the treatment feel like?
There is virtually minimal, if any, discomfort during the procedure. Rarely, a mild burning sensation may occur. No topical anaesthetic is required. However if we are working near the eye, say in the lower lids to create tightening there, then we would put protective eyeshields in the eye with anaesthetic eye drops as a precautionary measure to protect the eye itself; SAFETY FIRST !

What can I expect after the treatment?
Most people have some pinkness and some even a small amount of oedema/swelling in the skin which settles in 24 hours and can therefore return to work the next day. Make-up can be worn the next day. We would advise that if you work in the public eye, or on television, then it may be advisable to plan to take off 5 working days, as studio cameras are unkind at the best of times! We recommend regular application of moisturisers during the day for the first 5-7 days as the skin may feel a little dry.

If you have always desired to rejuvenate your skin but have had fears of traditional laser resurfacing, you should consider this laser treatment. The results surpass any other laser technology on the market and blow away commonly known treatments like microdermabrasion and skin peels.

Any body surface area and all skin types and colours can be treated. The following is a list of conditions that can be treated with fractional resurfacing:

  • Wrinkles
  • Poor texture
  • Large skin pores
  • Sun damage
  • Sun spots
  • Brown spots
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Traumatic scars
  • Melasma
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Stretch marks

How much will it cost?
Treatments start from £300 per session up to £1000 for a full face and neck; final costs will depend on the skin condition/lesion type and consultation findings.

I just wanted to say thank you to Hugo and his wife for providing such a welcoming and comforting experience when I visited the clinic for the first time.

It felt like visiting friends having coffee and a bit of a natter, and when it came to the reason I was there, I was delighted to be offered my (painless) treatment straight. A week later, it’s impossible to see where the patch of dark skin cells that lived on my face used to be, such a relief as this condition was worrying me for quite a few months and now it’s completely gone!!!

Thank you again and I hope you had a nice holiday too….
